Froswick

Froswick is a fell in the English Lake District. It stands on a narrow ridge between the Kentmere and Troutbeck valleys. To the north is Thornthwaite Crag and to the south is Ill Bell. Froswick is lower than both neighbours and has no obvious direct path to the top. It often serves as a stopping point on the Ill Bell ridge or the Kentmere Horseshoe walk. The fell closely resembles Ill Bell when viewed in profile. The western side of Froswick is steep and smooth, except for Blue Gill ravine. This ravine cuts from top to bottom and feeds Hagg Gill. The Kentmere side is rougher, with scree slopes falling to the River Kent near Kentmere Reservoir. Froswick has a subsidiary ridge called Troutbeck Tongue. This ridge separates Trout Beck from Hagg Gill and is of modest height. The ridges north and south of Froswick are narrow and exposed. A ruined fence leads above Wander Scar crags to Thornthwaite Crag’s summit plateau. The path to Ill Bell passes Over Cove and involves a rocky scramble. The summit of Froswick is small and grassy, with a small cairn marking the top. Views are limited by taller fells, but the Scafells and Langdales are visible. The fell also carries part of the High Street Roman road on its western flank, known as Scot Rake.
