Schloss Loderham

Schloss Loderham stands in the village of Loderham, part of the market town of Triftern in Lower Bavaria. The building is a rectangular structure with a hipped roof, built in 1726–27. Its entrance is marked by a marble portal with a fine stucco surround. The surrounding wall, topped with a 19th-century archway, encloses the courtyard. The castle’s history begins in the 14th century, when it belonged to the Schenken von Neudeck, a noble family that took its name from Loderham. The family’s wealth allowed them to take part in major knightly tournaments, bringing a hundred mounted men to events in Stuttgart and Landshut. After the last Schenken died in 1504, the estate passed through several owners, including the Rainer family, who held it for more than a century and a half. Inside, visitors find a building restored to its early 18th-century appearance. Archaeologists have uncovered remains of the medieval predecessor beneath the courtyard. The setting remains quiet, with the archway and wall framing views of the surrounding countryside.
