Schloss Reichersbeuern

Schloss Reichersbeuern stands in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, six kilometres east of Bad Tölz. It began as a water-burg built before 955 on a tongue of land surrounded by four ponds. Later owners turned it into a Renaissance palace, though its medieval core remains visible. The castle’s history is tied to powerful families and the Tegernsee monastery. Rasso of the Rapotonen line built the first stronghold to protect locals from Magyar raids. After passing through the hands of the Dießen-Andechs counts and Tegernsee’s ministerials, it became a Wittelsbach Hofmark seat in the 14th century. Today the Max-Rill-Schule occupies the site, yet visitors can still see the moat-fed ponds and the old stonework. The surrounding meadows and distant alpine ridges frame the scene, giving a sense of the medieval landscape that once shaped this place.
