Moel Druman

Moel Druman is a peak in the Moelwynion range within Snowdonia. It stands on a ridge that stretches south from the area below Moel Siabod, passing over Yr Arddu, Ysgafell Wen and Moel Druman before ending at Allt Fawr above Blaenau Ffestiniog. Three lakes lie close by: Llyn Conglog to the south, Llyn Cwmorthin below it, and Llyn yr Adar to the west. The boundary of Snowdonia National Park crosses the summit. Walkers usually start from Tanygrisiau village and follow the Cwmorthin valley up to the ridge. The route from Tanygrisiau climbs past old slate quarries and waterfalls before reaching the open moorland. The final slopes are grassy and gentle, though the ridge itself can be narrow and exposed in places. On clear days the view stretches from Cadair Idris in the south to the Carneddau in the north. The contrast between the dark waters of Llyn Cwmorthin and the pale crags of Allt Fawr is striking. The summit itself is marked by a small cairn rather than a trig point. From the top the eye follows the ridge south to Ysgafell Wen and north towards Moel Siabod. Below, the roofs of Blaenau Ffestiniog appear among the trees, while the lakes reflect the changing light. The path back can be taken along the ridge or dropped down to the old quarry road. The whole walk shows how quiet corners of the national park still hold traces of its industrial past.
