Geißriegel

The Geißriegel is a 1,043-metre mountain in the Danube Hills, part of the Bavarian Forest. It stands near the towns of Regen and Deggendorf in Lower Bavaria, within the municipality of Grafling. The mountain is surrounded by a group of peaks including the Dreitannenriegel, Steinberg, Hochoberndorfer Berg and Ulrichsberg. These mountains form a ridge east of the Graflinger Tal valley, separating the villages of Grafling and Bischofsmais. Other nearby summits are the Breitenauriegel and the Geißkopf. The Geißriegel offers long views across the Danube Hills and into the Bavarian Forest. On clear days the Alps can be seen from its summit. The mountain is popular with hikers and nature lovers for its quiet trails and varied landscapes. Its position in the Danube Hills makes it a good starting point for exploring the region’s forests and valleys. At the top visitors find a simple summit cross and open meadows. The path to the peak winds through mixed woodland and passes rocky outcrops. From the Geißriegel there are wide views over the surrounding countryside and towards the higher peaks of the Bavarian Forest. The mountain’s isolation and height give it a sense of remoteness despite its proximity to towns.
