Meall Mor

Meall Mòr is a grassy hill in the southern Highlands, rising near the route from Loch Lomond to Strathyre. It stands just north of the Highland Boundary Fault, where lowland meets upland. The summit is a modest grass-covered knoll with no crags or boulders. Its modest height of 747 metres still earns it recognition on several hill lists. The hill is classed as a Marilyn, a Graham and a HuMP. The hill’s modest stature belies its place among the most measured and verified summits in Britain. Organisations such as the Database of British and Irish Hills maintain and cross-check these lists. The last precise survey of its height was carried out in January 2015. Meall Mòr shares the landscape with many higher neighbours, yet it holds its own among them. A walker reaches the top by following the clear path that climbs from the A81 road. The final slope is gentle and leads to a small plateau where the trig point stands. From the summit the view stretches north across the Trossachs and south towards Ben Lomond. The contrast between the rolling lowlands and the rugged peaks is striking.
