Annabad

The Annabad is a public open-air swimming pool in Hannover’s Kleefeld district. It sits beside the Annateich in the Hermann-Löns-Park, surrounded by grassland and mature trees. Though owned by the city, the pool has been run by the Hannover Police Sports Club since 1996. The pool draws large crowds each season. In 2018 it welcomed 236 400 visitors, making it Hannover’s busiest of seven public outdoor pools. A single-day record of 11 500 guests was set on 30 June 2019. The season now starts earlier than any other city pool, often in late April, and closes last in autumn. The site hosts water-polo matches, youth camps, a police swim-and-run competition with more than 1 000 participants, and an annual charity swim for seriously ill children organised by Hannover Medical School. Inside the 50 000 m² grounds there is a heated 50 m by 21 m main pool with one- and three-metre diving boards. Two unheated learner pools, one of them 30 m by 20 m with a ramp for wheelchair users, share the space with a heated toddler pool. Three beach-volleyball courts, a small grass football pitch, a beach-soccer field, table-tennis tables and children’s play equipment—sandpit, climbing frames and swings—spread across the lawns. A kiosk serves snacks and drinks on an outdoor terrace.
