Ebner Joch

The Ebner Joch is a 1,957-metre peak in the Rofan range of the Austrian Alps. It stands above the village of Maurach in Tirol, its slopes rising from the Astenau-Alpe. The route from Maurach follows a clear path through alpine meadows before tackling two steep sections. Walkers cover about 1,000 metres of height gain on the way up. The summit is reached by a short scramble over grass and rock to a wooden cross. In 2016 a new three-metre-high cross replaced the old one, built by two families from Jenbach. The new cross was oiled six times to protect it from weather and has a central hole in the upright to reduce wind resistance. In 2018 it was added to the Tiroler Kunstkataster as a listed piece of art. From the top there are wide views across the Inn valley and the Karwendel range. The descent follows the same route back to Maurach, taking about an hour and three-quarters. The whole tour is graded as an easy alpine walk for sure-footed hikers.
