Sonntagsspitze

The Sonntagsspitze stands in the Vorkarwendel range in Tirol, a long ridge covered with mountain pines running north to south. Its neighbour to the north is the higher Schreckenspitze, while the Hohe Gans lies three kilometres to the south. The ridge begins near the Juifen five kilometres north of the Sonntagsspitze and ends at the Hohe Gans. A marked path starts from Achenkirch or Bächental and passes the Forsthaus Aquila and Tiefenbachalm before reaching Gröbner Hals. From there the trail leads directly to the Sonntagsspitze summit. Another route from Achenkirch follows the Moosenalm and crosses the eastern flank without a path. A more demanding approach comes from the Schleimssattel in the south, climbing the Fanesjoch ridge without a trail. At the top visitors find open views across the Karwendel Alps and far into Bavaria on clear days. The summit offers space for several people and a small summit cross. The ridge walk continues south to the Hohe Gans or north to the Schreckenspitze without marked paths. The surrounding forests and alpine meadows remain quiet even in summer.
