Juifen

Juifen is a 1,988-metre peak in the Pre-Karwendel range of the Karwendel mountains in Tyrol. It stands above the Sylvenstein reservoir on the Bavarian border, with steep limestone walls on its northern side. The summit is a long ridge running roughly east–west, offering a narrow but airy crest. From the south it appears as a rounded dome, while from the north it rises sharply in a single step. The Juifen is one of the most prominent summits in the Pre-Karwendel and is climbed all year round. In summer it is reached by a marked alpine path from the Sylvenstein Dam. In winter it is a popular objective for ski tours and snowshoe trips. Mountain-bikers can ride close to the summit by starting in the Bächen Valley or the Achen Valley, passing the Rotwand Alp on the western flanks. On the summit ridge there is a small metal cross and a summit register. The view stretches north to the Wetterstein and Mieminger chains, west to the Zugspitze, and south into the main Karwendel crest. The ridge itself is narrow and requires careful footwork, especially in the final metres.
