Pendling

The Pendling is a 1,563-metre mountain in the Brandenberger Alps, marking the boundary between Langkampfen and Thiersee. It is known as Kufstein’s local mountain and offers sweeping views across the Kaisergebirge, Kitzbüheler Alps, Hohen Tauern and Zillertaler Alps down to the Inn Valley. Two lakes lie below its slopes: the Stimmersee on the Inn side and the Thiersee on the Thiersee side. The privately run Pendlinghaus stands at the summit, with two summit crosses a short walk away. The mountain belongs to the Lechtal nappe system and is reached by several routes. From Mitterland a marked footpath cuts off the forest road to reach the summit in about one and a half hours. A longer southern approach starts at the Stimmersee and crosses the Dreibrunnenjoch in roughly three hours. Other ways include the Höhlenstein ridge from Hinterthiersee, which offers deep drops into the Inn Valley. The forest road from the Schneeberg inn to the Pendlinghaus is popular with mountain-bikers and, in winter, serves as a toboggan run as far as the Kala-Alm. From the summit a grassy crest leads on to Höhlenstein, Köglhörndl and Hundsalmjoch, finally reaching Buchacker.
