Tilisunasee

The Tilisunasee is a high mountain lake in the Rätikon range, lying at 2,105 metres above sea level in a deep bowl surrounded by peaks such as Tilisuna-Schwarzhorn and Montedona. It sits on a high plateau of the Gamperdel valley, fed by the Seebach stream which drains into the Ill river near Tschagguns. The lake is part of a remote alpine landscape with steep slopes and open water. The lake forms the heart of a protected area covering 482 hectares, noted for its large reed beds and southern bog. Rare wildlife includes ibex, chamois, marmots and several amphibians, alongside threatened species like the rock partridge. The site is recognised for its biodiversity and delicate ecosystems. Visitors reach the lake by walking from St Antönien in Switzerland, a route that passes the Partnunsee and takes about two and a half hours. Nearby stands the Tilisunahütte, a refuge offering shelter and views across the high plateau. The area is crossed by long-distance paths including the Zentralalpenweg, with routes leading to other huts and valleys.
