St. Johann im Pongau railway station

The Bahnhof St. Johann stands in the town of St. Johann im Pongau, a small settlement in the Salzach valley south of Salzburg. It sits on the Salzburg-Tiroler-Bahn, a railway line that links Salzburg with Wörgl and the Tyrol. The station serves both local and long-distance trains, making it a practical stop for travellers heading into the mountains. The building opened in the early 1940s under the name Markt Pongau. It received its present title in 1955, when the town itself adopted the same name. Today the station handles several trains each day, alongside three local bus routes that connect the valley with surrounding villages. Visitors find a modest station building with basic facilities. The platforms lie beside the single main track, sheltered by simple canopies. From here, passengers can board trains south to Wörgl or north to Salzburg in under an hour. The valley’s peaks rise close on either side, giving the station a dramatic Alpine setting.
