Copthall South Fields

Copthall South Fields is a six-hectare nature reserve beside the A1 at Fiveways Corner in Mill Hill. It lies within the London Borough of Barnet and contains several open fields dotted with oak, ash and field maple trees. Ancient hedgerows run between the fields, and wild flowers such as meadow vetchling and meadow buttercup grow among tall herbs. A small native woodland plot has been planted in the northern field by Watling Chase Community Forest. The reserve is worth visiting because it is recognised as a Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation. A local residents group, the Copthall South Fields Conservation Group, works to protect and preserve the area. The mix of grassland, woodland and hedgerows supports a variety of wildlife and wild plants. Visitors enter from Page Street near Fiveways Corner or from Champions Way. The open fields and scattered trees offer quiet places to walk, while the ancient hedgerows and newly planted woodland provide sheltered spots. Wild flowers bloom in season, and the small woodland plot adds variety to the landscape.
