Kreuzwandspitze

The Kreuzwandspitze is a 3 031-metre peak in the Glockner group of the Hohe Tauern National Park in East Tyrol. It stands in the north-east of Kals am Großglockner, where the broad East Face drops to the Teischnitz valley. The summit ridge runs south-east to the Kristallspitzl, separated by the narrow Kristallschartl gap. The first recorded ascent was made by Th. and B. Hinrichsen on 27 July 1965 via the south-south-east ridge. Walkers now follow the normal route from the Moaralm road through the Teischnitztal and up three stepped slopes in the Tschadinepfohl cirque. A scree gully leads to the fore-summit, then a short grade-I climb finishes the ascent. A harder alternative follows the south-south-east ridge from the Hoher Guldanoa and Inner Kasten. At the top the view stretches across the Hohe Tauern peaks and deep into the valleys. The route back can descend to the Stüdlhütte high above the Teischnitzbach or return the way it came. The surrounding walls of the Tschadinepfohl and the broad Kreuzwand face frame the climb, while the Kalser Tauernhaus shelters walkers in the Dorfertal below.
