Burg Andelfingen

Burg Andelfingen stands where the village church of Andelfingen now rises in Langenenslingen. Built by the Lords of Andelfingen, it first appears in records from 1348. The family served the Counts of Veringen and later the Counts of Grüningen-Landau as vassals. Nothing of the stone walls or towers remains above ground today. The vanished fortress once overlooked the valley below the church. Its vanished walls once sheltered generations of local lords who shaped the region’s history. The Lords of Andelfingen held sway over lands that stretched across Oberschwaben in the 14th century. Their loyalty shifted from Veringen to Grüningen-Landau as alliances changed. By the time the site was recorded, the castle had already become a memory. Centuries of ploughing and building have erased every trace. Visitors today find only the quiet churchyard beside the modern village church. A low rise in the ground marks where the castle once stood. The surrounding fields stretch away to distant woods. The only reminder is the name Andelfingen itself, kept alive in street signs and maps. The vanished fortress lives on only in old documents and local memory.
