Borough Briggs

Borough Briggs is a football ground in Elgin, Moray, Scotland. It has been the home of Elgin City since 1921. The ground opened with a Highland League match against Inverness Citadel, which Elgin won three goals to nil. The first goal at the stadium was scored by Willie Raitt after 20 minutes. The ground replaced an earlier temporary ground at Cooper Park used between 1919 and 1921. The stadium’s main stand contains 478 seats that once belonged to Newcastle United’s St James’ Park. Elgin City obtained these seats in 2000 when they joined the Scottish Football League. The club acquired 500 seats from Newcastle United during a revamp of the Milburn Stand. The remaining seats were used elsewhere in the ground. Visitors find a compact stadium with a single seated stand and open terraces. The pitch sits on the banks of the River Lossie, known locally as Lossie Green. The ground has a capacity of 4,520, though only 478 seats are available. The atmosphere is shaped by the club’s long history and community ties.
