Ynys Lochtyn

Ynys Lochtyn is a small island off the coast of Cardigan Bay in Wales, lying between New Quay in Ceredigion and the village of Llangrannog. At low tide the island becomes accessible on foot along a section of the Ceredigion Coast Path. The path leads to cliffs that rise above the island on a narrow peninsula. The island is known for its dramatic coastal scenery and the remains of a small fort built in the 19th century. Divers come to explore underwater features around the island, though strong and unpredictable currents make diving risky. The fort’s ruins sit on the peninsula, offering views across the bay. Visitors find a rugged stretch of coastline with steep cliffs and deep blue waters. The Ceredigion Coast Path provides a clear route to the cliffs, where seabirds nest on the ledges. The island itself remains cut off at high tide, adding to the sense of isolation. The fort’s stone walls stand weathered but intact, marking the spot where soldiers once kept watch over the bay.
