Llyn Aled

Llyn Aled is a natural lake on Mynydd Hiraethog in Conwy County Borough. It lies seven kilometres north-east of Pentrefoelas, just north of the A543 road. A dam at its northern end was added to enlarge the water. The lake sits 374 metres above sea level and covers 1.127 hectares. It feeds the smaller Llyn Aled Isaf reservoir downstream. The River Aled begins here and flows northward. The lake once hosted the Llyn Aled Sailing Club, which later closed as membership fell. Pike and other fish live in the water, though sailing has stopped. The Clwydian Way runs along the northern shore, offering a clear path around the water. Walkers can follow the trail and enjoy views across the lake and moorland. The dam and reservoir add to the landscape’s variety. Visitors find open water framed by heather-covered hills. The Clwydian Way provides a gentle walk with frequent viewpoints. The dam at the northern end is a quiet spot to pause. The reservoir below adds a second stretch of still water. The whole area shows how upland lakes are managed and used.
