Großer Wurzelnberg

The Großer Wurzelnberg is a rounded summit in the Harz mountains, standing 625.8 metres above sea level. It lies 3.7 kilometres northeast of Sieber in the Landkreis Göttingen. The hill forms part of a ridge that runs south from the Acker and divides the Kleine Kulmke valley from the Große Kulmke valley. The Kleiner Wurzelnberg stands 750 metres to the west, across the Kleine Kulmke valley. The site is worth the journey for anyone who enjoys quiet upland walks. The ridge offers long views over the surrounding forests and valleys. The watershed position gives it a clear sense of place between two streams. Walkers can follow the ridge southwards towards the Acker or descend into either valley. On the summit there is a small clearing with a bench. The rounded shape of the hill makes it easy to reach from any direction. The surrounding beech and spruce woods change colour with the seasons. From the top, the forested ridges stretch away towards Sieber and beyond.
