Wolfsberg airfield

The Flugplatz Wolfsberg is a private airfield in the Lavanttal valley, about three kilometres south-east of Wolfsberg in southern Austria. It sits on grass runways surrounded by rolling hills and farmland, giving it a quiet, rural setting. The club that runs the site is the Kärntner Luftfahrerverband Wolfsberg. The airfield handles gliders, motor gliders, ultralights, light aircraft and helicopters, with gliders towed aloft by powered aircraft. Visitors who want to land here with their own planes must first get permission from the airfield’s management. Fuel for piston engines is available on site, and the grass strips stretch for 740 metres. Inside the small terminal building there is a café and a flight school where newcomers learn to handle gliders and light aircraft. Outside, picnic tables sit under shady trees, and benches overlook the take-off and landing area. On clear days the view stretches across the Lavanttal to the surrounding peaks, making it a good place to watch planes and gliders against a backdrop of mountains.
