Evangelische Kirche Wolfsberg
The Evangelische Kirche stands in the Neudau quarter of Wolfsberg in Carinthia. Built in 1859–61 as a small neo-Romanesque hall church, it began life as a cemetery chapel for the local Protestant community. The building replaced an earlier wooden structure and was donated by the Henkel-Donnersmark family in 1857. Wolfsberg belonged first to the Waiern parish and then to Klagenfurt until it became an independent parish in 1934. Inside, the church has a strongly recessed choir ending in a semi-circular apse and a square west tower topped by a pointed roof. Giselbert Hoke designed the stained-glass windows in 1972; the chancel windows show the Passion, while the nave windows depict ‘Message’ and ‘Call to Decision’. Visitors enter through a covered shoulder-arched portal beneath a small columned canopy. The interior walls are plain, and the organ loft is framed by two square piers. Plain wooden ceilings span both nave and choir. The church sits quietly among late-19th-century houses, its modest scale and clear lines marking it as an unassuming landmark of local Protestant history.
