Moldaublick

The Moldaublick is a metal observation tower standing on the Sulzberg, a mountain 1,041 metres high in Upper Austria. It looks out over the Lipno reservoir and the Bohemian Forest on the Czech side. The tower itself was once an oil-drilling rig in Gänserndorf before being moved here in 1967. Its 24-metre height gives visitors a clear view once they have climbed 137 steps. A two-kilometre path from the Böhmerwaldarena car park leads to the tower. The route is part of a much larger network of hiking and cross-country skiing trails. These paths link the Moldaublick with other local landmarks such as the Schwarzenberg Canal, the Bärenstein hill and the Plöckenstein lake. The area is known for its quiet forests and wide horizons, ideal for long walks without crowds. The tower’s height and position make it a reliable spot for watching sunrise or sunset across the reservoir. On clear days the view stretches deep into the Bohemian Forest. Inside the tower there is a small viewing platform reached by the internal staircase. The surrounding woodland offers further routes for those who want to explore beyond the tower. The Böhmerwaldarena at the foot of the mountain provides basic facilities and marks the start of several signposted walks. The whole setting combines industrial heritage with natural scenery, giving a sense of openness above the treetops.
