Luthereiche mit Gedenkstein und Einfriedung

The Luthereiche Schönfeld is a memorial tree in Dresden’s Schönfeld district. It stands in front of Schönfeld Castle, protected as a Saxon cultural monument along with its stone and fence. The site lies where Markt and Am Schloß streets meet, just beyond the castle pond’s wall. Planted in 1883 to mark the 400th anniversary of Martin Luther’s birth, the pedunculate oak now reaches 19 metres tall with a crown 16 metres wide. A poplar beside it towers about a metre higher, casting dappled shade over the paved circle. A gilded inscription on the stone reads ‘Luther-Eiche’, framed by a curved iron fence on a stone plinth. Visitors find the tree raised slightly above street level, its roots spreading under the metal ring that guards the soil. The castle’s Baroque façade and the neighbouring church tower frame the scene, while the pond’s still water reflects the foliage. A quiet corner of the city, it invites a moment’s pause among the green and stone.
