Kleinbauernmuseum Reitzendorf
The Kleinbauernmuseum Reitzendorf is a small farming museum run by a local heritage society in the village of Reitzendorf, thirteen kilometres east of Dresden. The village sits in the Schönfelder Hochland, a plateau of gentle hills, and still keeps its rural character despite being part of Dresden since 1999. The museum occupies a traditional three-sided farmstead in the village centre, built in the 19th century and protected as a historic monument. The collection shows how small farmers lived and worked from the late 19th century until the 1980s. The last family left in 1984, leaving behind furniture, tools and everyday objects that now fill the restored rooms. Eberhard Pabst, a local researcher, added his own collection, and many villagers donated further pieces. Every three months a new exhibition opens in the adjoining house, often featuring photographs or paintings by artists from the region. Visitors walk through the living quarters, kitchen with its original oven, parlour, bedroom and stable on two floors of the main house. The barn displays old farm machines and tools no longer in use. The garden and courtyard host events organised by the Heimatverein Schönfelder Hochland, which also runs guided tours. The museum preserves the local way of life and invites people to see how small farms once shaped this corner of Saxony.
