Park Royal tube station

Park Royal station stands on the Uxbridge branch of the Piccadilly line, between Alperton and North Ealing. It sits on the south side of the Western Avenue, surrounded by residential Ealing on one side and industrial Park Royal on the other. A pedestrian subway runs under the busy road near the station. The platforms slope upwards from south to north, giving the station a noticeable gradient. Hanger Lane station on the Central line is within walking distance. The station opened in 1931 to replace an earlier one built for the District Railway in 1903. Its current building, designed by Welch & Lander in an Art Deco style, features a tall square tower with the Underground roundel. The ticket hall is circular with high windows, and glazed steps lead down to the platforms. Two curved retail buildings in the same style flank the station across Hanger Green. The station was briefly renamed Park Royal (Hanger Hill) from 1936 to 1947. Visitors find a simple but striking station with geometric shapes and strong horizontal and vertical lines. The tower makes the station easy to spot from a distance. Trains run frequently to Cockfosters, Rayners Lane and Uxbridge. London buses stop nearby, linking the station to the surrounding area. The industrial and residential mix around the station reflects its location at the edge of London’s business and housing zones.
