Chiswick Park tube station

Chiswick Park is a London Underground station in Acton Green, a district of Chiswick in West London. It stands on the Ealing Broadway branch of the District line, between Acton Town and Turnham Green stations. The station sits at the junction of Bollo Lane and Acton Lane, about 150 metres north of Chiswick High Road. It is in London fare zone three and close to Acton Green common. The Piccadilly line runs through the station on inside tracks but does not stop here. The station occupies part of the site of the Battle of Turnham Green, fought in 1642 during the First English Civil War. Royalist forces positioned their lines south of the station, extending toward the present Great West Road. To the south of the entrance, the Richmond branch of the District line crosses under the road. A short walk east leads to the Gunnersbury Triangle nature reserve, managed by the London Wildlife Trust. The station opened in 1879 as Acton Green, later renamed Chiswick Park and Acton Green in 1887. It received its current name in 1910 after rebuilding. Charles Holden designed the present structure in 1931–32, inspired by a Berlin station and featuring a tall brick ticket hall with clerestory windows. The Grade II listed building includes a square brick tower topped by the Underground roundel. The westbound and eastbound platforms have concrete canopies, and the ticket hall sits beside the embankment carrying the tracks.
