Dualt Spout

Dualt Spout is a waterfall near Stirling in central Scotland. It stands where a small burn drops over a rocky lip into a deep pool below. The setting is quiet, with steep hills rising on either side and rough grassland stretching away. The fall is one of the few in the region named with the word ‘spout’, a term often used for falls with a single vertical drop. It is not among the highest in the country but offers a clear example of how burns carve through the landscape. The name suggests a Gaelic origin, though its exact meaning is lost. Visitors find a short but steep path leading to a viewpoint above the fall. From there the water can be seen plunging into a dark pool surrounded by heather and rocks. The air is always damp and cool near the water, and the sound of the fall fills the small glen. On quieter days the only other noise is the wind in the grass and the occasional call of a bird.
