Ishneich

Ishneich is a waterfall in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It lies in a forested area near the Burncrooks reservoir. The John Muir Trail passes close by, leading walkers through mixed woodland. A red forest path branches off the main trail just before the trees open out on both sides. At the foot of this path a small burn supplies the waterfall. The waterfall is worth the journey for those who enjoy quiet woodland walks. The red path is easy to spot and leads directly to the burn. Following the fence line brings walkers to a stile, which must be crossed to reach the falls. The final descent is short but steep, ending at the base of the waterfall. The sound of water over rock fills the small glen. Visitors find a modest but attractive waterfall set in a steep-sided hollow. The burn drops over a low lip of rock into a deep pool below. The surrounding trees frame the scene, keeping it shaded and secluded. The ground is uneven and can be slippery, so care is needed near the water. The falls are small, making them more intimate than dramatic, but they reward those who seek them out.
