Kenton railway station

Kenton station stands on Kenton Road in the north-west London district of Kenton. It is an interchange between the London Underground’s Bakerloo line and the London Overground’s Lioness line, with Harrow & Wealdstone to the north and South Kenton to the south. The station also links to Northwick Park tube station on the Metropolitan line through an out-of-station interchange. Parallel main line services run past the station but call only at Harrow and Wealdstone, one stop away. The station opened in 1912 on the London and North Western Railway’s New Line from Camden to Watford Junction. The site is worth the journey for its two frequent services, each running four trains per hour in both directions. Bakerloo line trains first served the station in 1917, though the line north of Stonebridge Park closed briefly in 1982 before reopening in 1984. The former coal yard beside the tracks now holds a Sainsbury’s supermarket. Local buses 114, 183, 223, H9, H10, H18, H19 and SL10 meet at the station, making it a small but useful transport hub. Visitors find a simple station building with platforms for both the Bakerloo and Lioness lines. The platforms sit alongside the former New Line tracks, while main line services pass on the adjacent pair. A covered walkway connects the two sides of the station. The surrounding area includes shops and roads lined with terraced houses, giving a quiet suburban feel. Northwick Park tube station lies a short walk away for those needing the Metropolitan line.
