Mudchute

Mudchute is a station on the Docklands Light Railway on the Isle of Dogs in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It sits in fare zone two and takes its name from the nearby Mudchute Park and Farm. The station was planned as Millwall Park but concerns over football hooliganism led to the change. Local people worried visiting fans might mistake the station for the football club’s ground across the river. The original elevated station opened in 1987 and served as the last stop before Island Gardens. When the line was extended under the Thames to Lewisham the station was rebuilt near the tunnel entrance. The rebuilt station opened in 1999 and later gained a third platform and canopy by 2009. Off-peak trains run every five minutes to Bank and Lewisham, with up to twenty-two trains an hour at peak times. Some peak services travel to Stratford instead of Bank. The station connects to London Buses routes 135, 277 and the night route N277. Its location makes it a practical gateway to the Isle of Dogs and surrounding areas. Visitors find a modern DLR station with clear signage and step-free access. The surrounding area includes Mudchute Park and Farm, a large green space with farm animals and allotments. The park stretches over thirty-three hectares and offers views across the docks. Nearby are residential streets and modern developments built on former industrial land. The station itself is quiet compared with central London termini, making it an easy starting point for exploring east London.
