Church of St Mary, Rimpton

The Church of St Mary stands in the quiet village of Rimpton, Somerset. Built in the early 13th century, it is one of the oldest churches in the area. The stone structure includes a chancel, a nave with an 18th-century north transept and vestry, and a 15th-century south chapel. The west tower holds three bells, the oldest cast in 1657 by Robert Austen. Payments to the church were recorded as early as 1215, though the exact building date remains uncertain. This Grade I listed building is recognised for its historical significance and architectural interest. The interior features a 15th-century font topped with a 17th-century cover, while the pulpit also dates from the 17th century. The church has been part of the benefice of Chilton Cantelo, Ashington, Mudford, Rimpton and Mudford since the 19th century. Visitors find a peaceful place of worship with simple stone walls and a sense of long-standing history.
