U4

The U4 is a metro line in Vienna running 16.5 kilometres from Hütteldorf in the west to Heiligenstadt in the north. Opened in 1976, it connects at five points with other U-Bahn routes. At Karlsplatz it meets U1, U2 and U3, while at Schwedenplatz it meets U1 and U2. Längenfeldgasse and Spittelau both provide transfers to U6. The line serves twenty stations along its route. After Hütteldorf it stops at Ober St. Veit, Unter St. Veit and Braunschweiggasse before reaching Hietzing. Schönbrunn station lies beside the palace of the same name. Meidling Hauptstraße, Längenfeldgasse and Margaretengürtel follow, then Pilgramgasse, Kettenbrückengasse and Karlsplatz. The next stations are Stadtpark, Landstraße, Schwedenplatz and Schottenring. The line continues through Roßauer Lände, Friedensbrücke and Spittelau to its northern terminus at Heiligenstadt. Each station provides access to the city’s wider transport network.
