Hounslow Central tube station
Hounslow Central is a London Underground station in Hounslow, West London. It sits on the Heathrow branch of the Piccadilly line, between Hounslow West and Hounslow East stations. The station stands on Lampton Road, about 500 metres north of Hounslow High Street and close to Lampton Park. It belongs to London fare zone four. The station has an island platform reached by stairs and provides male and female toilets inside the ticket gatelines. The line through Hounslow Central opened in 1884 as a single-track branch to Hounslow Barracks. Hounslow Town station closed in 1886 and Hounslow Central, then called Heston & Hounslow, opened the next day to replace it. Electrification reached the branch between 1903 and 1905, replacing steam trains in 1905. The short-lived loop via Hounslow Town ended in 1909 when the original track reopened. The station gained its present name in 1925 when Piccadilly line services began running to Hounslow West in 1933. Visitors find an island platform served by Piccadilly line trains. The station building dates from 1912, with later updates in 1928 and 2001. Lampton Park lies nearby, offering green space just north of the station. London buses routes 120 and H20 stop outside, linking the area to Hounslow town centre. The surroundings include shops and streets along the High Street a short walk away.
