Creag nan Damh

Creag nan Damh is a 918-metre Munro and Marilyn in the Northwest Highlands. It stands in the South Glen Shiel Ridge, the lowest and westernmost of seven Munros along that fourteen-kilometre crest. The ridge runs between Glen Shiel to the north and Glen Quoich to the south, where steep grass slopes give way to rocky northern faces and deep corries. Walkers often tackle the ridge as a full traverse, starting either at Creag nan Damh in the west or at Creag a’ Mhaim in the east. The eastern route begins at the Cluanie Inn beside Loch Cluanie, while the western route starts at the Malagan Bridge on the A87. From Malagan Bridge a stalkers’ path climbs to the Bealach Duibh Leac col, and another path through Am Fraoch-choire leads up the South Glen Shiel Ridge. From the cairned summit of Creag nan Damh two ridges branch off: one northeast, the other northwest towards the 755-metre subsidiary top Sgùrr a’ Chuilinn. The main ridge continues east over the Bealach Fraoch Choire to the 896-metre Sgùrr Beag and on to the next Munro, the 1 004-metre Sgùrr an Lochain. An old stone wall runs along this section of the ridge, marking the way between the corries.
