River Trothy

The River Trothy rises on Campston Hill northeast of Abergavenny and flows south through rural Monmouthshire. It is a tributary of the River Wye and meets the Wye near Monmouth. The river turns east about a third of a mile south of Monmouth. The Trothy is a quiet river in a farming landscape of rolling hills and wooded valleys. It passes small villages such as Llanvapley on its way to the Wye. The water is clear and the banks are lined with rushes and willows. Walkers can follow the Trothy’s gentle course through fields and copses. At the confluence with the Wye the view opens to the wider valley. The river’s quiet presence makes it a place for short country strolls rather than busy outings.
