Filialkirche hll. Wolfgang und Magdalena, Rottendorf (Feldkirchen in Kärnten)

The Filialkirche Rottendorf stands in the village of Rottendorf, part of the Feldkirchen municipality in Carinthia. It is a small medieval church dedicated to Saints Wolfgang and Mary Magdalene. The first wooden chapel on this site dates from 1461, and the present stone church appears in records from 1495. The building shows traces of its former role as a fortified church. The five-storey tower, set at the southern corner of the choir, has pointed sound openings and a pyramid spire covered with asbestos-cement sheets. Inside, a bell cast by David Polster in 1644 hangs in the tower. The polygonal choir is supported by triple-stage buttresses and filled with original late-Gothic windows. The nave, originally flat-roofed, now carries a pointed barrel vault with lunettes added in the 18th or 19th century. A late-Gothic door with iron bands leads from the choir into the sacristy below the tower. Inside, the high altar of 1633 shows a carved altarpiece framed by ornamental cresting. Its central panel depicts the four patron saints, while the upper painting shows the Coronation of the Virgin flanked by statues of Saints Florian and Anthony. To the left stands a carved figure of Mary Magdalene from about 1525, influenced by Augsburg styles. On the right hangs a round painting of the Annunciation from the late 18th century. The pulpit dates from the last quarter of the 17th century, and the church also contains a painted Judith with the head of Holofernes, a draped statue of the Immaculate Conception, and a 19th-century figure of Saint Florian.
