Brookwood Lye

Brookwood Lye is a nature reserve covering 22 hectares near Woking in Surrey. It lies beside the Basingstoke Canal on its northern edge and the A324 road on its southern boundary. The land is mostly wet grassland with patches of alder carr and broadleaved woodland. The site is managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust. It supports a wide range of plants and animals. The reserve contains many dragonflies and other invertebrates. A variety of birds also live or visit here because of the wet habitats. The wet grassland and alder carr provide ideal conditions for specialised species. The broadleaved woodland adds further diversity to the site. These habitats together create a rich environment for wildlife. Public access to Brookwood Lye is not allowed. The reserve remains undisturbed for conservation. Visitors can view the site from the adjacent Basingstoke Canal towpath. The contrast between canal and reserve shows how different habitats support different wildlife.
