Littlefield Common

Littlefield Common lies south-west of Worplesdon in Surrey. The 17-hectare nature reserve is owned by Surrey County Council and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust. It contains wet and dry woodland, heath, grassland and several ponds. The ponds support a range of amphibians including newts, toads and frogs. Among the plants are common yellow sedge and heath spotted-orchid. The site is recognised for its varied habitats and wildlife. The mix of wet and dry areas creates conditions for different species to thrive. The heath supports heather and gorse while the grassland holds wildflowers. Visitors can walk through the woodland and along the edges of the ponds. Access to the common is from Aldershot Road. A visit reveals quiet paths winding through open heath and shaded woodland. The ponds attract dragonflies and damselflies in summer. Wildflowers colour the grassland in spring and summer. The contrast between wet and dry zones makes the landscape change with the seasons. The common offers a peaceful place to observe nature close to Worplesdon.
