Afon Leri

Afon Leri is a river in Ceredigion, Wales. It begins at Llyn Craig-y-Pistyll and meets Afon Ceulan at Talybont. The river then passes behind Borth before reaching its mouth in the Dyfi estuary at Ynyslas. Historically, it flowed into Cardigan Bay at Aberleri, south of Ynyslas. In 1824, its course was changed to create a harbour for local shipbuilding. The river has seen significant flooding, most notably in June 2012. Heavy rain caused property damage in Talybont, Dolybont and Borth. The flood highlighted the river’s power and the challenges of managing its flow. Visitors to Afon Leri find a quiet waterway winding through rural landscapes. The riverbanks offer peaceful walks, especially near Talybont and Borth. The Dyfi estuary at Ynyslas provides a natural stopping point for birdwatchers. The area around Cwm Eleri adds to the scenery with its gentle hills and streams.
