1950 European Aquatics Championships
The 1950 European Swimming Championships took place in Vienna over eight days in August. The event was organised by the Ligue Européenne de Natation and featured three disciplines: pool swimming, diving and water polo. Vienna’s outdoor stadium pool hosted all the races and finals. The championships drew athletes from across Europe who competed for national teams in front of local crowds. Men and women swam freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke over distances from 100 to 1,500 metres. Divers performed compulsory and voluntary dives from one- and three-metre boards and from the ten-metre platform. Spectators watched the water polo tournament alongside the diving contests. The stadium pool sat within a larger sports complex beside the Danube Canal, offering shaded seating and clear views of every event. Evening ceremonies on the final night closed the championships with medal presentations and speeches.
