Parkland Walk

The Parkland Walk is a 5-kilometre linear green route in north London. It follows the old Edgware, Highgate and London Railway line between Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace. The path uses bridges, cuttings and embankments of the former railway. A short stretch passes through Crouch Hill Park in Islington. The route forms part of the Capital Ring walking trail. The walk is London’s longest local nature reserve, declared in 1990. It was created after the railway closed in the 1950s and 1960s. The old station buildings were mostly demolished, leaving platforms and bridges as reminders. The route avoids the closed Highgate station tunnels for safety. It offers a quiet green corridor through built-up areas. Visitors walk beneath road bridges and over footbridges built for the railway. Remains of Crouch End station stand beside the path. A former switchgear blockhouse now houses a community centre with a café. The route passes through Crouch Hill Park, a triangular green space with rare wildlife. Beyond, the path leads to the brick bridges and tunnels near Highgate. Further on, steps descend to the trackbed near Alexandra Palace, ending under Muswell Hill.
