Heimatmuseum Bezau

The Heimatmuseum Bezau stands in the Ellenbogen district of Bezau, a village in the Bregenz district of Vorarlberg. It occupies an 18th-century Bregenzerwald farmhouse, a two-storey timber building covered in wooden shingles. The farmhouse is listed as a protected monument. The museum preserves rooms arranged as they were in the 18th century. The kitchen has an open hearth and a dairy corner, while the parlour contains a clay stove. The parents’ bedroom, called the Gado, opens off the parlour. In 2024 a new timber extension was added to house additional displays. The renovation won the Austrian Building Clients’ Prize in 2025. Visitors find original furnishings and everyday objects from the region. A gallery shows works by important artists from the Bregenzerwald. The collection also includes folk and religious artefacts. The building itself, with its shingle roof and timber walls, remains a fine example of 18th-century farm architecture.
