Rappenklammspitze

The Rappenklammspitze is a mountain that stands at 1 835 metres in the Karwendel range. It lies near the village of Hinterriß in the Austrian province of Tirol. The peak is separated from the Steinkarspitze by only 1.5 kilometres of ridge. A well-marked trail leads walkers up from Hinterriß through the Rontal valley. The route is graded between one and two on the Alpine scale, making it suitable for fit hikers. The climb rewards effort with views across the steep-sided Rontal. After about three hours on the ascent the summit is reached, having gained some 910 metres. From the top it is possible to extend the walk to the nearby Wechselkopf without retracing steps. The descent normally takes two hours along the same path. The surroundings are wild and rocky, typical of the northern Karwendel. The route passes through forests of spruce and larch before opening on to alpine meadows. In clear weather the summit offers wide views of the Inn valley and the Wetterstein range. The contrast between dense woodland and open rock faces gives the walk variety in every season.
