The Millennium Bridge is a cable-stayed structure that crosses the Morača river in Podgorica, Montenegro. It stands in the heart of the city, linking the Boulevard of Ivan Crnojević with July 13 street. The bridge’s single white pylon rises 57 metres above the road, supported by twelve cables on the deck and twenty-four on counterweights. Designed by Marjan Pipenbaher and Mladen Ulićević, it was built by the Slovenian company Primorje and opened on 13 July 2005. Within months it became one of the city’s most recognised landmarks.

The bridge was built to ease traffic across the Morača, carrying two lanes in each direction plus wide pedestrian walkways. Its sleek lines and tall pylon give it a modern appearance that contrasts with older bridges nearby. The structure cost about seven million euros and was completed in the same year it began. By connecting the city centre with newer districts, it shortened journeys for thousands of residents daily. Its clean design and efficient layout made it an instant symbol of Podgorica’s growth.

Visitors find a broad deck for walking, with railings that allow views of the river below. The pylon’s height offers a vantage point over the surrounding streets and buildings. On clear days the bridge frames distant hills against the sky. The pedestrian paths are wide enough for groups to stroll side by side. At night the structure is lit, turning the pylon into a glowing landmark. The bridge’s position makes it easy to reach from many parts of the city.
