Church of the Holy Spirit alla Ferratella

Spirito Santo alla Ferratella stands in southern Rome, a modern parish church dedicated to the Holy Spirit. It sits on Via Rocco Scotellaro in the Pope’s own Diocese of Rome, close to Viale Cesare Pavese. The church was built for a parish founded in December 1981 and is served by the Rosminians. Pope John Paul II visited the church in April 1989. In June 1988 it became a titular church for a cardinal-priest. The church has been the titular church of three cardinals since its creation. Vincentas Sladkevičius held the title from 1988 until his death in 2000. Ivan Dias took the title in 2001 and held it until his death in 2017. Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo has held the title since 2019. Visitors find a modern church building set in a quiet Roman neighbourhood. The interior reflects the simplicity of contemporary church design. A large crucifix hangs above the altar, and stained-glass windows cast coloured light across the space. The church serves a local parish and remains a place of quiet worship and reflection.
