Burg Laibach

Burg Laibach stands on a low hill above the village of Laibach in the Hohenlohe district of Baden-Württemberg. The site began as a medieval castle in the 14th century and later became a Renaissance palace. It was once owned by the lords of Aschhausen, then by the Berlichingen family, before passing to the Capler von Oedheim and finally the Muggenthal family. The Muggenthals rebuilt the castle in the 17th century as a four-winged Renaissance palace with two stair-towers and a round tower. After a violent end to the Muggenthal line in 1775, the estate passed through Brandenburg to the Racknitz family in the 18th century. In the 19th century part of the palace was demolished, and in the late 20th century it was restored with new facade paintings. Today the castle presents a four-winged Renaissance structure with a chapel containing a 1629 pulpit. Its position gives wide views over the surrounding valley. Some rooms are used for concerts during the Hohenloher Kultursommer, linking the building to local cultural life.
