The Königsleitenspitze stands in the western Kitzbüheler Alps, part of the Kelchsauer Alps, where Salzburg and Tirol meet. Its grassy slopes and alpine meadows give it the look of a typical Tiroler Grasberg. Locals regard it as the town mountain of Königsleiten, a small settlement below the pass.

The mountain is fully equipped for visitors. A summer-and-winter gondola runs from Königsleiten almost to the summit, joined by two more gondolas and a chairlift in winter. The lifts belong to the Zillertal Arena, which keeps a network of marked paths open year round.

On arrival, walkers find wide tracks across open slopes and through high pastures. The summit area offers broad views over the Salzach valley and the surrounding peaks. Neighbouring ridges lead to the Falschriedel, Ochsenkopf and Müllachgeier, giving longer routes for those who want them.
