Dobratsch Transmitter Tower

The Sendeturm Dobratsch is a tall radio tower on the Dobratsch mountain, the easternmost peak of the Gailtal Alps. It stands near Villach in Carinthia, Austria, at an altitude of 2,115 metres above sea level. The tower was built in 1971 to replace an older facility on Pyramidenkogel. It has a concrete base that supports a steel tube mast at the top. A private cable car from Bad Bleiberg carries visitors up the mountain to the tower. The tower is the strongest transmitter in Austria, with an effective radiated power of 125,000 watts. It broadcasts FM radio, DVB-T television, and directional radio services. The signal reaches all of Carinthia and parts of Styria, Italy, and Slovenia. Its height and power make it an important facility for regional communication.
