Bothwell Water

The Bothwell Water is a river in the Scottish Borders. It begins high in the Lammermuir Hills near a place called Caldercleugh. From there it flows past Upper Monynut Forest and Crichness. The river then passes Bothwell Hill before reaching the village of Bothwell. Finally it joins the Whiteadder Water. The Bothwell Water is worth the journey because it runs through varied landscapes. The Lammermuir Hills provide open moorland and rocky outcrops. Forests and farmland appear along its banks. The river also passes close to Bothwell village, which adds a human touch to the scenery. A visitor finds a quiet watercourse winding through open country. The upper reaches show the raw hills and peat bogs of the Lammermuirs. Lower down, the river is bordered by mixed woodland and meadows. Paths follow the water for short stretches, giving easy access to its banks. The final stretch before the Whiteadder Water offers gentle farmland views.
